Dream Rocket Project

~Dream Rocket Program~

If you haven't heard yet, we have embarked on a great journey with the Dream Rocket project. Students collaboratively created panels telling their dreams for the future. These panels were then given to the International Fiber Collaborative where they will be sewn into a gigantic artwork in a Guinness Book of World Record attempt! This artwork will wrap the model of the Saturn V rocket in Hunstville, Alabama in the spring of 2011. All of this is in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of John F. Kennedy's "Man on the Moon" speech. It has been very inspirational to listen, read, and see my student's dreams in visual form. If their dreams come true, all of our futures will be very bright.

To give you an idea of how large this art quilt will be check out the scale below. It will take 8,000 sewn panels to cover the rocket and it is taller than the Statue of Liberty!

Total cost of this project was $1400.00. We are the happy recipients of the Bette Marschall Memorial Education Fund Grant for $400.00 and we are very grateful for their generosity. :) The Walnut Springs Renaissance Club has donated the rest of the needed money through their own fundraiser dance. Many thanks to everyone involved with the fund. You have helped many worthy students through your work!
