HELP OUR DREAMS SOAR!

~Dream Rocket Program~

If you haven't heard yet, we are embarking on a great journey with the Dream Rocket program. Students are collaboratively creating panels telling their dreams for the future. These panels are then shipped to the International Fiber Collaborative where they will be sewn into a gigantic artwork in a Guinness Book of World Record attempt! This artwork will wrap the model of the Saturn V rocket in Hunstville, Alabama in the spring of 2011. All of this is in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of John F. Kennedy's "Man on the Moon" speech. It has been very inspirational to listen, read, and see my student's dreams in visual form. If their dreams come true, all of our futures will be very bright.

To give you an idea of how large this art quilt will be check out the scale below. It will take 8,000 sewn panels to cover the rocket and it is taller than the Statue of Liberty!

Total cost of this project is $1400.00. We are the happy recipients of the Bette Marschall Memorial Education Fund Grant for $400.00 and we are very grateful for their generosity. :) Many thanks to everyone involved with the fund. You help many worthy students through your work.

How can you be a part and help? SPONSOR US!
For $20.00 you will sponsor FIVE students' registration and the shipping of their work. If you are able to, please contact me at mcclellanj@wcsoh.org. If anyone sends in sponsorship money, please include your full name & address so that I can turn this in as a school donation and you can get a tax deduction!

Consider helping us in our quest to make our dreams soar and be a part of something bigger than ourselves!

Kruger Concern Drawings

(IF YOU ARE HERE TO LEARN ABOUT FOUND ART CLICK 'FOUND ART' ON THE RIGHT UNDER THE MONTH OF SEPTEMBER)

After studying the work of the artist Barbara Kruger, students chose a topic they were concerned about. We discussed personal concerns, world concerns, and how artists communicate their views through their work. Below you can see some of their wonderful work. In our drawings, we focused on getting the correct proportion and shading in values according to their resource photographs. I think they did an outstanding job don't you?!

Color Wheel Cookies

(IF YOU ARE HERE TO LEARN ABOUT FOUND ART CLICK 'FOUND ART' ON THE RIGHT)

To kick off our new painting endeavor we celebrated by making "Color Wheel Cookies" as a short activity to review basic color theory before going further. Since students haven't had art classes since elementary school, I review many basics before moving on. While eating, we discussed what we will be doing for our "Dream Rocket" Panels. There will be a posting coming shortly regarding this awesome program! For now, here are a couple of pics and how the icing makes us colorful!

A little fun to kick off our unique painting unit!
